Emergency plumbing services

Woman with plumbing leak

We understand how stressful it can be when you have a plumbing emergency.

After all, what you're trying to flush and get rid of is coming back to you. Gross!

When you have a toilet blockage, typically your first instinct is to keep flushing and pray that it goes down. When that doesn't work, you turn to the trusty ol' plunger, and maybe even Liquid Plumr® or Drano®.

Try to refrain from using chemical drain cleaners, though. They are extremely harsh on our eco-system in Southwest Florida and can injure a plumber, if you happen to call one.

It's also stressful when the garbage disposal or other drains are clogged. If you've got filthy water and/or raw sewage all over the floor and you were unsuccessful at fixing the problem yourself, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Turn off the main water source to your home if possible. This will prevent anyone from further exacerbating the problem by accidentally flushing or adding more water.

  2. Try to keep children and pets away from any solid waste or urine on the floor. Obviously, it's unsanitary.

  3. Somewhere outside your home should be a white circle (about 4 inches in diameter) with a square nut on it. That's called a "Clean Out". Unscrew it. It may provide temporary relief by allowing the sewage to overflow outside rather than inside your home. More details below.

  4. Call a professional plumber and get it fixed A.S.A.P.

Sometimes it pays to outsource the dirty work so you don't have to soak up all that nasty water with your clean towels.

On the other hand, maybe your situation isn't urgent.

Perhaps you need some of the following fixtures replaced or repaired:

  • Sink
  • Urinal
  • Faucet
  • Washer
  • PVC piping
  • Water heater

  • Shower drain

  • Toilet or bidet

  • Garbage disposal

Whether you are unconfident in your abilities, you don't know how install any of the fixtures above, or you simply cannot do it yourself, there's no shame in hiring a plumber. Just be sure to do your homework first.

  1. Ask your local friends  who they recommend. If you're new in town, ask others on a local Facebook Group such as Ask My Local SWFL or NextDoor.com.

  2. Check the company's reviews on Google, Yelp, BBB, Facebook, and NextDoor,  to ensure reputability.

  3. Once you've narrowed down the field, visit MyFloridaLicense.com to verify their contractor's license. Here is our plumbing license.

  4. Get quotes from at least 3 companies in Southwest Florida and then compare pricing.

  5. Choose the plumber with the best value.

  6. Ask them for the name of their insurance carrier, the agent's name, and phone number so you can request a certificate of insurance that proves they have liability insurance coverage as well as worker's compensation insurance. The last thing you want is a plumber injuring himself on your property and then suing you to pay for his medical bills.
